LOWES FOODS HOME DELIVERY AND “SMALL DATA” STRATEGY
International companies are becoming creative with how they reach out to consumers by using digital tools. Nonetheless, it’s not always bad to add a little bit of human interaction.
Some nations, including the UK, have long practiced the practice of delivering goods to customers’ homes, but the practice is only now beginning to gain popularity in the United States. Some food and drink companies, like Waitrose in the United Kingdom, are testing out services in which delivery personnel gain access to customers’ homes through the use of electronic keys and store their purchases in the appropriate rooms regardless of whether or not anyone is there to accept delivery.
Now, Lowe’s Foods is joining in, and it has some suggestions for your house to go along with its newfound interest in food.
The grocery chain was hoping to extend its home delivery service into the Carolinas, where it is already popular.
Lowes Foods had locations in the Wilmington, Triad, and Triangle regions of North Carolina, as well as the Charleston, Columbia, and Greenville markets in South Carolina, but there was no simple way to expand home delivery there without a sizable investment in infrastructure, which was not deemed viable at the time.
When considering its shipping options, Lowe’s Foods opted to team up with a local firm, anticipating cost savings and improved efficiency thanks to the shipping partner’s already-established network and familiarity with the area. The grocery store chain choose to work with Ship since it is a Target Group member and is situated in Alabama.

DESIGNS INFORMATION
Lowes Foods, though, isn’t happy with only delivering goods to your house. The grocery chain uses a term called “small data” to describe its goal of learning more about you while it’s there.
Big data’s ability to inform businesses about their consumers and their purchasing behaviors is nothing new. Loyalty card programmers and similar endeavors are ideal for collecting vast quantities of data for in-depth research. Contrarily, little data is handled in a much more individual manner.
To collect little data, employees from Lowes Foods travel to consumers’ homes and have in-depth conversations with them about their shopping habits and the products they like.
As Lowes put it, “Lowes found its consumers sought greater connectedness to each other and to their shops, and to have more of a joyful experience while shopping,” through making use of little data. “In order to attract more customers, Lowe’s rebranded their chicken area and began hosting regular events, such as a daily “chicken dance” performed by a worker dressed in a chicken costume. Chicken sales have increased by a factor of five thanks to the viral success of the “chicken dance,” which may seem absurd but really resulted in social media postings and YouTube videos.”
