Spin Flash Dryers are used for centrifugal drying of high viscosity products, pastes and filter cakes. This process is appreciated by customers in various industries in India as a faster and more energy efficient alternative to spray drying. With several centrifuges installedgriffinmachinerycombines experience and state-of-the-art technology to offer value-added solutions to its customers.
Performance and operation
Griffinmachineryrotary dryers are designed for continuous drying of cohesive and non-cohesive pastes, filter strands and high viscosity liquids.
The main components of the griffinmachineryare a feed system, a patented drying chamber and a bag filler.
Feeding system
The feed system consists of a feed tank in which an intermittent flow of product is buffered and crushed by an agitator prior to continuous drying. A speed-controlled auger (or pump in case of liquid handling) conveys the product to the drying chamber.
Drying chamber
Rotors on the conical bottom of the dryer drum rotate the product particles in an efficient stream of hot air that quickly breaks up moisture clumps. The hot air is supplied by temperature-controlled hot air heaters and speed-controlled fans and enters the drying chamber from a tangential direction, creating turbulent, swirling air flows.
The finer particles in the air pass through a classifier located at the top of the dryer, while the larger particles remain in the air stream for further drying and size reduction.
The drying chamber is designed to withstand pressure peaks in case of explosive combustion of flammable particles. All bearings are effectively protected against dust and heat.
The dust in the drying chamber is collected in a bag filler and the exhaust air is blown out of the system through an exhaust fan located at the top.

Spin Flash DryerIn addition to conventional systems with open circuit and atmospheric air as drying medium, closed circuit systems can be developed based on the hypoxic principle (self deactivation) or systems with external supply of inert gas, e.g. nitrogen. The hypoxic system is recommended for drying solvent-based materials because there is no risk of dust explosion and the nitrogen system allows complete solvent recovery.
Drying chambers
Spin Flash Dryer is available in standard sizes with diameters ranging from 200 mm to 2,500 mm. They are normally made of stainless steel, but can also be supplied in corrosion-resistant materials such as Hastily. For drying chambers with inlet temperatures above 500°C, special heat-resistant stainless steel air diffusers are used.
Pharmaceuticals
For GMP-compliant plants, Spin Flash drying chambers are supplied with a number of special design features, such as barrier shaft inlet, sanitary flange mounting and sealing, inspection door seals, easy disassembly and rotor covers.
Small plants
Spin Flash Dryer systems are available for research and small-scale production and can be installed immediately. They are easy to operate and can be disassembled for cleaning.
