Sail Africa Youth Development Foundation has won the 11th-hour Racing Sustainability Award for 2022. The winner was announced in a virtual program that was organized at the Royal Yacht Squadron, UK.
This award has been provided to the Sail Africa Youth Development Foundation as they have done exceptionally well to increase participation from people who are from ethnically diverse backgrounds along with encouraging the females of their country to participate in it.
The 11th Hour Racing Sustainability award was first given in 2018 to encourage and incorporate different kinds of sustainability initiatives in sports. To date, the award has been given to lots of high-quality entries worldwide for the same. The 11th Hour Racing Sustainability award asks for individual sailors, clubs, different sporting events, classes along with federations of different countries to apply for this. The extent of the program is not considered but the thought of banishing inequalities is considered here.
According to Dan Reading, who is the Head of Sustainability at World Racing, the PlainSailing.com Sustainability award is for those who can show the best global initiatives to maintain and increase marine sustainability as a whole. All those who have won this prize previously have proved that any initiative taken together is a step towards maintaining the sustainability of the ecosystem.
Due to different activities whether scientific or nonscientific, the pollution level in this world is increasing day by day. This is why; it becomes our duty to keep the world clean. Corpus Christi Yacht Club grabbed the inaugural award in 2018 as they successfully arranged the Youth Sailing World Championship that year. The Royal Yachting Association won this trophy in 2019. For the first time, people could choose their winner through their votes in 2020. This was done so that the international sailing community could take an interest in it. Therefore Starboard became the winner through public voting due to their initiatives to reclaim 1.1kg plastic for each of their boards produced through the Plastic Offset Program.
All the applicants try to show some life skills initiative so as to ensure sustainable outcomes from their initiatives. Poverty eradication, educational development, inequality reduction, and environment awareness making are the targets for most of the applicants. They were also profiled as a part of the course named World Sailing Steering.
The target of the 11th Hour Racing Sustainability Award is given so that they can encourage effective execution or continuation of any of the initiatives that can protect and help to regain the health of the environment and the health of the marine ecosystem. They have also aligned their target with the World Sailing Sustainability Agenda 2030.
